The scoreboard is only part of the story

Sport coverage that only follows results misses most of what sport does for people.

The final score tells you who won. It does not tell you about the volunteer who unlocked the changing rooms at seven, or the teenager playing their first match after a hard year.

The argument

Sport at the grassroots is about far more than results. It builds confidence, friendships and healthier communities.

This is not a call to slow everything down. It is a call to be honest about who is affected, to show our reasoning and to leave room for people who see it differently.

What comes next

We will keep telling the stories that happen around the result.

“The scoreboard is only part of the story.”
